3 Career-Focused New Year’s Resolutions for 2022

January 12, 2022

2022 has arrived! There is still plenty of time to make a New Year’s resolution. And if you want to take your career to the next level in 2022, now’s a great time to consider 3 Career-Focused New Year’s Resolutions to do just that.

Here are three career-focused New Year’s resolutions to consider for 2022, along with tips to help you get the most out of them.

1. Develop a New Skill

Today’s employers frequently seek out candidates who possess a strong combination of soft and hard skills. Fortunately, you can take steps to grow your skill set in 2022. From here, your soft and hard skills can help you distinguish yourself in a fierce job market. Plus, they can help you land your dream job in as little time as possible.

To develop a new skill, figure out where you want to go in your career. Consider your current skill set and how it aligns with your career goals, too. Next, you can decide what skill you want to develop.

Take advantage of online courses and training programs. You can find free online classes from edX, Coursera, and many other sources. Furthermore, you can sign up for college and university classes. That way, you can build your skill set and earn degrees and certifications.

2. Update Your Resume

You want a resume that shows who you are and what you are all about. Yet, if it has been several years since you last revised your resume, you may be overdue for an update.

At this time, take a look at your resume and ensure it contains up-to-date information. Add recent jobs you held or educational programs you’ve completed to your resume. Also, include an objective statement on your resume that describes what you want to achieve in your career.

Moreover, review your resume on both a desktop computer and mobile device. If necessary, revamp your resume’s format. This ensures prospective employers will have no trouble viewing your resume on a computer, smartphone, or tablet.

3. Grow Your Professional Network

Although you use LinkedIn to search for jobs, your professional network remains limited. Today, you can start growing your professional network. And over time, this network can play a vital role in your job search.

Reach out to past and current colleagues via LinkedIn. Once you connect with these individuals, keep in contact with them moving forward. For instance, you can comment on network professionals’ LinkedIn posts. In addition, you can regularly publish LinkedIn content of your own.

Along with LinkedIn, capitalize on virtual and in-person networking events. You can attend networking events held by myriad industry organizations. With each event you attend, you can further expand your professional network.
